Escapespace, CUTMR 2014

Dream. Create. Consume. Play. Express. Destroy. Rest. How and why do you seek an escape from reality? We polled Torontonians to better understand how they momentarily or repeatedly escape reality and why. Using the collected responses, we created a three dimensional installation for Come Up To My Room (CUTMR), 2014 at the Gladstone Hotel to represent how we as a city and as individuals disconnect from our daily realities and into our personal spheres. The installation hung over the front entry of the Gladstone Hotel on Queen St. West and used a series of geodesic spheres at various scales to represent the number of responses that were received. This form was chosen due to its rigidity and scientific preciseness, which contradicts the qualitative and opinionated data that was collected. The melody bar windows were also covered by a geometric pattern, which displayed some of the unique responses that were collected over the months leading up to CUTMR.
